Transcribe any meeting, free in your browser

Open a tab, click record, and get a live transcript with an AI summary in seconds. Works with Google Meet, Zoom-in-browser, and Teams-in-browser. No download. No signup.

This tool works best on desktop Chrome — meetings need to play through a browser tab the mic can hear.

Built by Kai — let your assistant join every meeting and write the notes for you.

Three steps, no install

How it works

01/03

Open the meeting in a tab

Join your Google Meet, Zoom-in-browser, or Teams-in-browser call from any Chromium-based browser. Nothing to install on either side of the call.

02/03

Click record and allow mic access

Hit record, click Allow when your browser asks for mic permission, and make sure the meeting is playing through your laptop speaker (not AirPods) so the mic can hear it. The transcript builds live, on-device, while the meeting happens.

03/03

Get the summary + action items

Stop recording and you get a structured summary, key decisions, and a clean action-items list — ready to paste into your notes or email to attendees.

What this tool can & can't do

Which meetings can I transcribe?

The tool captures audio from a browser tab. If your meeting plays in a tab, you can transcribe it. If it only runs in a desktop app, it's out of reach — that's an honest limitation, not a paywall.

The free tool and Kai for Chrome capture audio from a browser tab. For desktop apps, system audio, and phone calls, the Kai app captures everywhere.

What leaves your machine

Privacy & data handling

Designed so you can transcribe a real meeting without uploading the recording anywhere. Open each item to see exactly what happens, and what doesn't.

Audio stays on your device

Captured by your browser, transcribed locally with Whisper. The audio never reaches our servers — there's nothing to leak because there's nothing to upload.

Only the final text leaves your machine

When you click stop, just the text transcript (not the audio) is sent to our summarizer so it can write the summary and action items. You can also skip the summary entirely.

No account, no tracking cookies tied to a user

We don't ask for an email to use the tool. If you choose to send the notes to yourself, that email is used once for the send and never retained for marketing.

No host notification, no bot in the call

Other attendees aren't notified — your browser is just listening to a tab on your machine, the same way you can mute it. There is no participant called "Kai Notetaker" sitting in the meeting.

Kai for Chrome

Take it with you. A Chrome extension that remembers every meeting.

Same on-device transcription as the free tool, lifted into a proper extension. Pin it once and every meeting you sit in stacks locally. Open the side panel, scroll back, copy what you need.

  • Local meeting history. Every transcript stays on your machine, browseable from the side panel.
  • Works wherever your meeting plays. Google Meet, Zoom-in-browser, Teams web, Webex, Discord, Gather.
  • 100% on-device Whisper. No upload, no signup, and no bot ever joins the call.

Two ways to transcribe

Live transcript vs after-the-fact

Both have their place. This tool is built for the live case — no upload, no waiting, no separate recorder app to manage.

Live · what this tool does

Transcribe as the meeting happens

Lower friction: nothing to upload, no second app, no waiting for a file to process. You also see the transcript fill in as people talk, which is useful for catching missed details without breaking flow.

After-the-fact · upload a file

Transcribe a recording you already have

Better when you have an existing .mp3/.mp4 (e.g. an interview you recorded separately) or want maximum accuracy on a non-time-sensitive transcript. Not what this tool does — try a file-upload transcriber for that case.

What you can do with the transcript

A transcript is a starting point.

This free tool gets you the words. Kai — our paid AI executive assistant — turns every meeting into action: searchable notes, drafted follow-ups, and tasks already on your calendar.

Meetings

A searchable knowledge base of every meeting

Kai joins your meetings, captures the transcript, and indexes everything by attendee, project, and topic — so last month's decision is one search away.

Tasks

Action items that actually leave the meeting

Kai pulls action items into your task list with owners and due dates. You triage them in one place instead of hunting through notes.

Email

Follow-up emails drafted before you sit down

Kai drafts the recap email, the next-steps email, and the question-back-to-the-prospect email — each in your voice, ready to review.

Open Zoom in your browser (zoom.us → Join from Browser), start the meeting, then open this tool in another tab and click Record. Allow microphone access when your browser asks, and make sure the meeting plays through your laptop speaker — not headphones — so the mic can pick it up. The transcript builds live as the meeting happens. When you stop, you get a structured summary and action items. No signup, no install, nothing uploaded — Whisper runs locally in your browser.

Yes. This tool listens through your microphone, so it captures whatever audio your laptop speaker is playing — the host doesn't need to enable anything and isn't notified. Just keep the meeting on your speakers (not AirPods) and your own mic does the rest.

Open the Meet call in a browser tab, open this tool in another tab, and click Record. Allow microphone access when your browser asks, and play the meeting through your laptop speaker (not headphones) so the mic can hear it. The transcript streams live, and you get a summary plus action items when you stop. Works for guests and hosts alike.
